Artemus is a newly activated robot. He is programmed to function as co-pilot of an RK-6000 class rocket ship. This is one of the various types of ships made available to students at the Eagleton Space Academy. His current task is to help guide Mary Reed, otherwise known as Rocket Girl, through her lessons in piloting rocket ships. His primary function is to act as an observer and co-pilot, only seizing control of the ship if his student is unable to control it or for other such emergencies.

All students at the Academy who are training to pilot ships are assigned robot co-pilots and they are each programmed for a specific vessel. Each ship is designed with a compartment in which these robots stay when the ship is not in use, however Rocket Girl has come to think of Artemus as more of a friend than a service robot. She invites him to accompany her to classes as well as stay in her home. A practise which is rather unusual and not performed by the majority of students.

Due to his relative newness and lack of experiences, Artemus finds himself excited by new experiences. This often results in his system overheating and shutting him down temporarily.
